Mission And Vision
As stated in the foundation’s Constitution, our mission is to contribute to the move to a low-carbon economy.
Our vision is to help in the fight against climate change and improve living standards in low-income rural communities in Central America and The Carribean while meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To achieve this, we connect individuals and businesses that want to offset their carbon footprints with tree planting projects, and in doing so we sequester carbon and provide opportunities for our local partners to improve their living conditions
We summarise all this in 5 simple words:
Plant trees. Offset Carbon. Improve Lives!
Why Central America and The Caribbean?
Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America and the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere, with an average annual income of £1300 per person.
Deforestation is widespread as wood is the principal source of fuel for cooking, and land is often cleared of trees for farming. The country has lost over 40% of its tree population in the last 40 years.
With 90% of the population living in poverty, rural Nicaraguan communities often rely on subsistence farming to survive. This usually requires every member of the extended family to be engaged in arduous manual labour with no time to generate other income, and limited time in school for children.
Help is needed as these communities depend upon support from non-profit organizations like Reduce Our Carbon (ROC).
